Psalms 33:18-20 – Behold, the eye of the Lord is upon them that fear him, upon them that hope in his mercy; 19: To deliver their soul from death, and to keep them alive in famine. 20: Our soul waiteth for the Lord: he is our help and our shield.
Dear Friends – I am writing today to encourage you in your walk with the Lord. I am writing to encourage you in the time frame between when we pray and ask God for help and when His help is actually evident, which is sometimes instant, other times not so much. In our hearts we know God hears our prayers and will answer in His way, in His time. But if you are like me, that time can often seem unbearably long. Often we begin to question if God is still aware of us or our circumstances.
Friends, may these words of inspiration encourage you that God is aware and God is at work. The above scripture says He is our help and our shield when we are hoping in His mercy and looking for His provision. It is easy to look at the waves of turmoil or distress in our lives and feel as if God is nowhere to be found and we will surely drown. When we are in the furnace of affliction, in the refiner’s fire, it is most painful and we are pleading for instant relief. But the process of trials and afflictions is not an instant delivery but a long, and most rewarding spiritual journey.
If we say we want to be a witness for Christ then we must also be aware that our lives are being witnessed by those around us. They are watching how we react in times of great difficulty or loss. They are witnessing if we are continuing the journey with God or bailing out because the way is too hard. If we are going to serve the Lord in any meaningful way we must know that that is usually going to require change. Often times we do not like change. Perhaps we just want to be saved, delivered and healed and then proceed on the journey doing our own thing as if we had the wisdom to avoid future pitfalls or disasters. But the journey with God is an experience of growth, an experience of resting in Him, believing the best is coming our way, a great expectation and hope in His ongoing and continued care of us. And all of this requires us to be soft and pliable in the Lord’s hands. The journey with God is all about change because He changes us from faith to faith, from grace to grace, and praise His Name, He never leaves us to stagnate or be unfruitful unless we become rebellious in our attitude towards Him and refuse to be changed when needed.
So be encouraged today. If you are in the furnace of affliction the Fourth Man is right there with you. And as the butterfly emerges from the cocoon you will emerge from the refiner’s fire with a charisma and attraction that will draw others to you. Patiently wait during times of trial and trust God. Don’t jump ship and abandon the cause. Continue to pray and believe in His mercy and grace. Remember, others are watching your witness, and these are they that the Lord has placed in your path to share with them His life in you and your experiences on this journey.
